Hedgehogs

The infamous Finnish hedgehogs provided the entertainment this weekend, in between periods of essay writing. We headed to a friend’s house as she promised we’d see hedgehogs around dusk. We laid out dog food and sat in the living room waiting. You can imagine me silly, giggling and pulling a chair up to the window to get “a front row seat”. Before long, sure enough, a hedgehog was chowing down on the mighty feast we’d left outside. We sent Jonathan outside with thick leather gloves to catch our furry little friend. He failed surprisingly… or no surprise… not sure. So then my friend who is a bit more experienced in this field, slipped quietly outside upon the critter’s return and scooped him up. She brought our new friend inside so I could see it up close. You’ll notice in the photo that the hedgehog is curled up in a ball which is what they do when they are frightened. So we didn’t keep it inside the house too long. I petted its nose which is probably the only non-spikey thing on it, and then we unleashed back to the great outside.
Fun… and FREE entertainment. Free is our favourite word right now.
